STORES - Promotion of Higher penetration of distributed PV through Storage for all

The aim of the StoRES project was to facilitate the development of the photovoltaic (PV) production units with a storage device, in islands and rural areas.

The law on self-consumption of energy, published in 2017, led to a significant increase in photovoltaic installations in the residential sector in France. However, the storage market is not yet developed in this market segment, unlike in other European countries. Therefore, the StoRES project had a prospective interest for the French solar industry.

The project consisted in testing various storage solutions in situ, defining the optimal conditions for the development of storage solutions for individual or grouped PV installations and making proposals for the set up of support mechanisms.

Analysis, recommendations and spin-offs of the results

The project had several phrases:

  • Preliminary study on the economic, legal and administrative context related to self-consumption and storage in the different partner countries;
  • Installation and instrumentation of 35 pilot plants in 6 partner countries (not in France);
  • Data analysis: operation of the batteries, impact on self-consumption rates, cost-benefit analysis;
  • Development of an online economic simulation tool for producers;
  • Recommendations on the policies to implement;
  • Workshops, meetings, spin-offs of the results and links with the climate action plans of the territories.
