TerriSTORY® will be extended to all Alpine regions thanks to the project CERVINO

2023.02.23

For the European Union to become a carbon-neutral economy by 2050, decision-makers need reliable energy data to define, implement, and monitor the effectiveness of energy policies. The project CERVINO aims at setting up a system that allows the collection, management, update and use of Alpine energy data, that will be made available by every alpine region. This system, will be developed thanks to the open source computer code of TerriSTORY®

A reference web tool for territories in transition

Co-developed with the territories of Auvergne-Rhône Alpes Region, TerriSTORY® is an educational and decision-making tool that allows the visualisation of multi-thematic data (energy, climate, economy, etc.). It was created in 2018 on the initiative of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Energy Environment Agency (AURA-EE) and with the support of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region and ADEME.

Thanks to a dynamic and interactive visual interface, TerriSTORY® helps to understand the territory, identify its potential and the priority action levers. On the basis of this analysis, the tool simulates prospective scenarios, by measuring their socio-economic and environmental impacts, in order to build a territorial path that meets the challenges ahead.

Extending the scope of TerriSTORY® to EUSALP territories

In the framework of the EU Strategy for the Alpine Region (EUSALP), AURA-EE and other partners had conducted in 2017 and 2019 Energy Surveys allowing the comparison of energy data across the Alpine regions. Thanks to the project CERVINO, funded by the Interreg Alpine Space, the data collected in the survey will be updated, and most of all, data collection will be semi-automatised and displayed in a data visualization tool that will be developed using TerriSTORY® open source code.

Next steps

AURA-EE is currently developing CERVINO alpine energy data platform. A beta version of the tool will be shared with EUSALP “Energy” Action Group, and later with a larger group of stakeholders, so stay updated if you want to give your feedback on the future tool !
