Support EUSALP, supporting the European Strategy for the Alpine Region

By setting up a technical secretariat (TSS) and a coordination framework gathering 16 partners, the project Support EUSALP will allow a long-term follow-up on EUSALP’s objectives and priorities, as well as the implementation of the 9 Action Groups’ work plans. At the strategic level, the project will support the integration of results into public policies. At the advocacy level, it will increase visibility and strengthen the communication toward its audience, including the general public and youth.

Support EUSALP contribution to EUSALP

The European Union Strategy for the Alpine Region SUERA (EUSALP) is an initiative supported by the European Council, and constitutes a common framework for all 7 countries and 48 regions of the Alpine arc. Within it, local actors and elected representatives collaborate to face common challenges in the sectors of economic growth, innovation, mobility, digitalization, energy and environment.
To address these challenges, 9 thematic action groups (AGs), composed of local actors of the Alpine region, cooperate to identify levers and issue recommendations. The AG9 "Energy" is co-lead by the South Tyrol Energy Agency, Casaclima, and AURA-EE at the request of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region.
The Support EUSALP project is a continuation of the AlpGov and AlpGov2 projects, whose objective was to structure the governance of EUSALP and to support the work carried out by the action groups. Support EUSALP will pay particular attention to the integration of the work produced by AGs in public policies, and to increase the visibility and awareness through communication and advocacy actions.

AURA-EE engagement in Support EUSALP

Support EUSALP supports the activities carried out by AURA-EE as co-leader of the action group 9 on energy.
AURA-EE involvement in this European scheme brings real added value to the regional territory. On the one hand, it allows the agency to explore future issues (hydrogen, energy communities, etc.) through the exchange of best practices, the organization of conferences and the setting up of European projects. On the other hand, through the formulation of political recommendations, the AG brings the voice of actors and communities of the Alpine Regions to the European authorities.

Expected results

The priority themes of AG9 for 2023-2025 are: smart cities/communities; energy efficiency of buildings (especially private tertiary); carbon offsetting; sustainable forest and wood management.
The flagship activities of AURA-EE and the AG9 for 2023-2025 are:
- Setting up a project on carbon offsetting
- Promoting and integrating the future EUSALP Energy Observatory developed in the framework of the CERVINO project to all Alpine territories
- Participating in the development of hydrogen (H2) in the Alps, in particular by setting up a EUSALP H2 Focus Group
- Organization of an annual energy conference
- Organization of the EUSALP energy award in 2024
