TerriSTORY® in the limelight during the 2021 European Covenant of Mayors Ceremony

The Covenant of Mayors Ceremony 2021 took place virtually on Thursday 7 October 2021. In front of more than 500 online participants, AURA-EE had the opportunity to present TerriSTORY® during the session "Long-term ambitions for 2050, why and how'. Indeed, the new commitments for 2050 of the Covenant of Mayors Europe encourage all members of the Covenant of Mayors Community to adopt an ambitious long-term vision for their territories. For the territories, it implies therefore to use effective decision-making tools, in order to successfully reach climate neutrality by 2050.

Planning for the future and long-term

Thomas Knight, Project Manager, presented TerriSTORY® as an educational and decision-making tool which has been co-developed with the territories. It allows the visualisation of multi-thematic data (energy, climate, economy, etc.). It was created in 2018 in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, on the initiative of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Energy Environment Agency (AURA-EE) and with the support of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region and ADEME.Thanks to a dynamic and interactive visual interface, TerriSTORY® helps to understand the territory, identify its potential and the priority action levers. On the basis of this analysis, the tool simulates prospective scenarios, by measuring their socio-economic and environmental impacts, in order to build a territorial path that meets the challenges ahead.

Toward a a fairer and climate-neutral Europe

In April 2021, the Covenant of Mayors initiative has entered a new phase, officially launching its renewed ambition of a fairer and climate-neutral Europe.

Signatories now commit to reaching climate neutrality by 2050, implementing adaptation to climate change measures and alleviating energy poverty through a just transition. They also commit to engaging their citizens, businesses and local stakeholders in the transition, thus contributing to the European Climate Pact. The European Climate Pact is an EU-wide initiative inviting everyone to participate in climate action and build a greener Europe.
